Sunday, October 9th, Hannegan’s, 6pm-7.30pm
Join us for an homage to one of Ireland’s most neglected literary lions as we mark the 50th anniversary year of Flann O’Brien’s death, in this, his 105th birthday week. Flann O’Brien was a novelist, playwright and columnist of singular distinction who flourished in the cold climate of a repressed mid-century Ireland.
Prepare to be regaled by the words of a humourist and satirist of Swiftian proportion as we romp through the Myles catalogue. Readings include excerpts from “At Swim Two-Birds”, “An Beal Bocht”, “The Third Policeman” “An Cruiskeen Lawn”( The Brother, The Catechism of Cliche, Keats & Chapman etc!) The Anna Livia Flanneurs (Conor Howard, Colm O’Riain – full lineup tba) Special guest, UC Berkeley professor and Flann O’Brien scholar, Dr. Catherine Flynn.
