IRISH IN “LOST” GATOS

MORNING WALK

9.30am to 11.00am

LOS GATOS PARK PLAZA meeting place

Alan Feinberg, creator and developer of the Discover Lost Gatos smartphone app, leads a special festival guided tour through the historic town of Los Gatos. You’ll learn about some of the remarkable Irish and Scottish settlers who helped to shape the town over the past two centuries. The walk stops at Mary Barry Coggeshall’s Victorian home where former mayor of Los Gatos, Sandy Decker, in 1890s costume, tells of the Irish connection to that grand house.

“Nestled in the heart of a dramatic natural amphitheater formed by the Santa Cruz Mountains, Los Gatos serves as the gateway from the Santa Clara Valley to the Pacific Ocean. This happy accident of location allowed historic Los Gatos to witness a colorful parade of swashbuckling explorers, Franciscan padres, and hearty American pioneers, many of whom came to harvest virgin redwood forests from the mountains and grow fruit in exceptionally fertile soil. – Images of America, Peggy Conaway
