Saturday, October 8th, Los Gatos Youth Recreation Center, 1pm -1:30pm
Readings from the works of one of Ireland’s favorite children’s poets, Gabriel Fitzmaurice.
Will You Be My Friend? and Splat bring together Gabriel Fitzmaurice’s best-loved poems chosen from his collections for children. For the young and the young at heart, the poems range from the silly to the serious, from the sad to the happy, from the naughty to the nice. Childhood, family, school, animals, the seasons and festivals of the year are all seen through the eyes of a child.
Deeply rooted in the literary tradition of North Kerry, Gabriel Fitzmaurice has been called “poetry’s answer to John B Keane” (Books Ireland) and his poems have been described as “comparable to Burns for their insight and lyricism” (The Irish Times). “The Irish A.A. Milne” – Declan Kiberd
Gabriel Fitzmaurice will not be present, but his poems will be recited by local school students.
