Sara Berkeley grew up in Ireland and now lives in the San Geronimo Valley with her husband, daughter, dog, cat, and varying numbers of fish. She has had six collections of poetry published: Penn (Raven Arts Press/Thistledown Press, 1986), Home-movie Nights (Raven/Thistledown, 1989), Facts About Water (Bloodaxe Books/New Island Books, 1994), Strawberry Thief (Gallery, 2005), The View from Here (Gallery, 2010) and What Just Happened (Gallery, 2015 and Sentient Publications, 2016); also a collection of short stories The Swimmer in the Deep Blue Dream (Raven/Thistledown, 1992) and a novel Shadowing Hannah (New Island Books, 1999). Her poetry has been widely anthologized, and nominated for a Pushcart Prize and the Irish Times Poetry Now award. When she’s not making vast sums of money as a poet, she works as a hospice nurse.
